A joint Swiss-British scientific round table was held in March on the “Top of Europe”, and included researchers and influencers from leading Swiss and British institutes and universities (Tobias Bolch amongst them) brought together by the British Embassy Berne. The programme consisted of two panel discussions and three roundtables held at the Jungfraujoch and Kleine Scheideg, and focused on topics relevant to the glaciers and ice sheets under changing climate conditions.
It is clear that both countries are considerably active in cryospheric research in the polar regions and mountain glaciers, but collaborative research is challenging due to a lack of co-funding schemes between Switzerland and the UK as neither is a member of EU.
This roundtable event aimed at fostering specific topics of potential collaborations, including climate change related impacts on glaciers and ice sheets and challenges in related observational and modelling studies
