Sustained warming has occurred over the past few decades in the Himalaya and glaciers in the planets highest mountain region have been receding in response. A new study by researchers from the University of St Andrews and the National Geographic has found that the rate of ice loss from glaciers around Mt. Everest has accelerated consistently since the early 1960s and that ice loss is now occurring at an elevation (>6000 m a.s.l) formerly thought to be protected from ice loss.
